Charles Rennie Mackintosh
Lo scozzese Mackintosh, architetto, designer, arredatore e pittore, è insieme alla sua “Spook School” di Glasgow comunemente classificato come esponente dello stile Liberty.
Egli tratta il legno come materiale duttile e malleabile, ama rivestire i suoi mobili con lacche che ne nascondono le attaccature e i giunti e ne fanno risaltare solo le forme definitive.
Nel corso della sua carriera arriverà a disegnare mobili rigidamente geometrici, preferibilmente neri, di forte effetto decorativo.
Mackintosh e i suoi amici vogliono distinguersi dalla confusione stilistica e dalla mediocrità dell’epoca vittoriana, in questo intento furono appoggiati dal movimento inglese “Arts and Craft”. |

Charles Rennie Mackintosh
The Scotchman Mackintosh, architect, designer, interior decorator and painter, is thought of, along with his “Spook School” of Glasgow, an expo-nent of the “Liberty school”.
He treated wood as a ductile material and loved to cover his furniture with lacqueres which camouflaged joints and showed off only the definitive shapes.
In the course of his career he will arrive at the point of designing rigid geometric furniture, preferably black and always with a strong decorative impact.
Mackintosh and his friends desire to distinguish themselves from the stylistic confusion and mediocrity of the victorian era and in this intent had the backing of the english “Arts and Crafts” movement. |
