Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe

Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe nacque il 27 marzo 1886 ad Aquisgrana.

Nel 1905, dopo aver terminato gli studi si trasferì a Berlino, dove lavorò fino al 1907 come apprendista nello studio dell’architetto Bruno Paul e dal 1905 al 1911 come assistente presso Peter Behrens.

Le sue opere principali dopo il 1945 : edifici dell’ “Illinois Institute of Technology” e grattacieli per abitazioni a Chicago, Seagram Building (grattacielo per uffici) a New York, edifici per musei a Houston (Texas) e a Berlino.

Il riconoscimento mondiale dell’importanza della sua opera trovò espressione in numerose onorificenze.

Morì a Chicago il 17 agosto 1969.

Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe

Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe was born on March 27th, 1886 in Aachen.

In 1905 after having finished his studies he moved to Berlin where he remained until 1907 working as an apprentice in the architectural studio of Bruno Paul. From 1908 until 1911 he worked as an assistant to Peter Behrens.

Particularly after the Second World War, his outstanding professional activity did not go unnoticed.

His principle work after 1945: buildings for the Illinois institute of Technology”, skyscrapers in Chicago, the “Seagram Building” in New York, a museum in Houston and in Berlin.

Numerous honours attested to the worldwide recognition of the importance of his work.

He died in Chicago on August 17th, 1969.
